A Place for All

Written by Executive Director, Burgundy Hill

Over the last year, QCT has been in a season of change. With guest directors and staffing changes, we have grown, learned, evolved, and transitioned, all while trying to provide the highest quality theatre for our community. I am so proud of our journey in 2024 and incredibly optimistic as we continue into 2025.

At the end of last year, the board and staff looked closely at our structure and processes to ensure we are building a strong and sustainable organization. We are also deep into a new strategic planning process, putting the finishing touches on our roadmap for the next three years. These conversations force us to look closely at where we are and where we are going in this ever-evolving industry.

In addition, in the coming weeks and months, you will see some new and returning faces on our staff. A new Technical Director will be joining us in just a couple of weeks. As many of you know, this position has been open for almost 14 months. This incredible challenge has not been unique to QCT. Theatres nationwide are struggling with a shortage of technical experts in the field. It has been a tremendous challenge for us to overcome, and I am so grateful to our volunteer community for helping us fill the gaps. In the last couple of weeks, we have also had a new Development Coordinator start with us. They are working remotely for now, helping us navigate grant season, but they will be on-site in the coming months. I can’t wait to share our formal announcement for both positions in March. We are also well underway in our search for an Artistic Director.

Through these transitions at QCT, we remain steadfast to our four core values: Excellence, Creativity & Innovation, Community Engagement, and Stewardship. Especially in the last few weeks, our value of community engagement and our promise to “prioritize the active involvement and collaboration within our diverse community, fostering connections and inclusivity through a welcoming and supportive environment” has been at the forefront of my mind.

We share the desire to come together through storytelling. Whether you are drawn in for a few hours of entertainment or here to explore deep parts of the human condition, we celebrate inclusion and accessibility. There is a place for everyone at QCT. Theatre has long brought people together, providing a safe space, and creating opportunities for all. We hold fast to that ideal.

So, to the theatre lovers, the bohemians, and the people who have found their home at QCT, please know that we continue to value and make space for you here.

I believe that creating a local, in-person community is more important than ever. We each must find our bright spot where we can connect, find joy, and positively impact those around us. I invite you to be a part of that at QCT. Whether from the audience or as a volunteer, we celebrate our diverse community and welcome you with open arms.
